Kerala becomes first state to have its own broadband internet service!

-

Kochi, India (CU)_ The Indian state Kerala is one of the most beautiful destinations to visit or reside, and is now the first Indian state to have its own internet service. Kerala Chief Minister Pinrayi Vijayan expressed delight as he made the announcement of the internet service. According to the Kerala government, all state residents should have access to the internet. Hence, the government established Kerala Fibre Optic Network Ltd (KFON), which also acquired an ISP license from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

The CM stated that Kerala is the first state in the nation to have its own internet service. He also noted that the KFON project may now be initiated and the people of Kerala would have access to the internet as a fundamental right. Announcing the news on Twitter, Kerala CM Vijayan tweeted, “Kerala becomes the only State in the country with its own internet service. The Kerala Fiber Optic Network Ltd has received the ISP license from @DoT_India. Now, our prestigious #KFON project can kickstart its operations of providing the internet as a basic right to our people”.

The KFON initiative will provide free broadband internet access to BPL families. Additionally, under the KFON project, more than 30,000 government agencies in the state will also receive free internet access. Both the government and the people of Kerala would benefit significantly from this major project. According to the state government, internet access is a fundamental right of the people. The majority of low-income households cannot afford internet connection and are deprived of the advantages that internet users enjoy.

According to the KFON website, 15,600 km of access OFC (optical fiber cable) and over 5,000 km of backbone OFC have been deployed. The ambitious goal of the project is to provide free internet access to over 20 lakh people in the state by deploying 35,000 kilometers of OFC. This is an example to the other states and the states with robust economies may also emulate. Due to the fact that most people cannot afford internet access, it is crucial that the state and central governments collaborate to guarantee that those who cannot afford it get access to the internet in some way. This will catapult India into a brighter future.
