Mumbai: An official said that, in a swift action, police saved a five-year-old girl kidnapped allegedly by two women from the Mumbai suburb of Bhandup to sell her, just 12 hours after the crime took place.
He also said that there were four women involved, in the girl kidnapping and two of them were highly involved. They were arrested from the Balkum area in adjoining Thane city and the girl was later reunited with her family.
The accused women said that they wanted to sell the girl for financial benefits. Post-abduction from Mumbai, out of the four women, the girl was kept with two of them, who are both staying in Thane.
Sunday evening the incident took place, that is when the girl went out to buy balloons for Holi celebrations. When she did not return home till late in the evening, her parents got worried and started to panic and were searching for their daughter, he said.
Some people in that area in suburban Bhandup saw the girl going with two women in an auto-rickshaw. According to the officials one of them was recognized as Khushboo Gupta, who stays in the same area.
The girl’s parents made a complaint at the Bhandup police station, based on which a case of kidnapping was registered. The police searched for the girl and caught Gupta. During interrogation, she admitted that along with another woman, Maina Dillod, she kidnapped the girl by promising her to buy a chocolate, and took her to Thane, says the official.
In Thane city, the girl was taken to Balkum, where she was kept with the other two women. Accordingly, on Monday a police team conducted a search in Balkum and saved the girl just 12 hours after she was kidnapped, he said. The two Thane-based women, Divya Singh and Payal Shah were arrested by the police because of their involvement in the entire kidnap episode. After a medical examination, the girl was given to her parents. The officials also added that the arrested women were produced before a court which sent them to police custody till Friday.
