The Lagos State University (LASU) has promised to refund 50 per cent of school fees to students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.50 in every session. This looks like a really good incentive for the students as university education unless on a scholarship does not come cheap.

Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, revealed the existence of this new policy during the matriculation ceremony of the 2020/2021 students on Monday. The students will now work towards achieving better grades which makes it easier for them to find good employment at home or even in foreign lands.

She said the policy was to promote healthy competition among the students who consistently maintain an average of the CGPA. The VC said LASU had, over the years, remained on the path of academic excellence and distinguished itself in the comity of universities in the country.

The Vice Chancellor went further to state that “We are committed to excellence and determined to emerge as the best university in the West Africa region, the university has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractices, corruption and hooliganism,” adding that defaulters “will be dealt with.”

A total of 6,648 students were matriculated into the academic programmes of the institution. This will help these student in their future for they will see that the better work they produce the better the reward. Although most people this it would be unhealthy it is seen by the majority in the way it should. For in the real world everything is seen as a competition and with this little incentive the students will be exposed to how they must face the world in the future.
