Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ Libya is curious in hiring skilled workers from Bangladesh and is ready to host a delegation for the Ministry of Labor of Bangladesh in February to address the conditions of Bangladeshi workers in the Libyan labor market with the help of the High Committee for the Regulation of Foreign Workers.

The announcement was made during a meet between the Libyan Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation of Tripoli, Mehdi Al-Amin, and Sheikh Iskandar Ali, the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Libya. The meeting was also arranged to mark the end of Sheikh Iskandar Ali’s term of office in Libya. The meeting discussed the current situations and future of the Bangladeshi workers in Libya.

The Minister appreciated the Ambassador’s attempts to reinforce the collaboration relations between the two countries. In turn, the Ambassador expressed his deep appreciation to the Minister for his contribution and support for the organization of foreign labor in the Libyan labor market, and thanked the Government of Tripoli for its support in strengthening the ties between the two countries.

Over several years, the Bangladesh-Libya relationship has been strong and healthy. In Libya, Bangladesh has a resident ambassador, and in Dhaka, Libya has a resident embassy. Libya has been hiring migrant workers from Bangladesh since 1974. The agreement to send 1 million employees to Libya was signed by Bangladesh in 2009. Libya barred migrant workers from Bangladesh in May 2015 over complains that they were illegally traveling via Libya to Europe.
