LONDON ENGLAND – the covid crisis has been nothing but a drain on most countries but this doesn’t mean that countries did not try to work around it.

It was the schools that really took a hit when everything closed down during this time. But the Loughborough University has been shortlisted for the prestigious Times Higher Education University of the Year award for its response to the Covid-19 crisis.

The University has done well in handling the crisis and still keeping the students productive. They took all measures and guideline very seriously. The award itself is a big deal and very prestigious. The University would have shown absolute excellence to have been nominated for this award.

The annual award show has been affectionately called the OSCARS of the higher education system. It’s a fun time and everyone attending has a good time regardless of what capacity they attend in. It’s jokingly said that it gives all the uptight higher ups in the education system a chance to somewhat let loose and forget their responsibilities.

Professor Nick Jennings, Vice-Chancellor and President of Loughborough University, said: “I am delighted to hear Loughborough has been shortlisted for this prestigious award. The nomination recognises the way everybody pulled together to support our communities during the pandemic, from providing free food parcels for students isolating, to organising safe and compliant social and sporting activities. The nomination also recognises our national leadership on issues such as asymptomatic testing, Covid risk assessments and student welfare. The pandemic caused widespread disruption across society, but at Loughborough we can proudly say that we did right by our young people at a time of significant crisis.”

The awards ceremony will take place in London on November 17. We wish all the nominees the best of luck!
