Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (CU)_ According to the Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Malaysia is dedicated to sustainable water development in accordance with the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). According to the prime minister, Malaysia is one of the countries committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals policies, which were approved in September 2015 by the UN and are scheduled to be achieved by 2030.
This commitment is demonstrated by the actions taken by the government to include SDG initiatives, such as the 2017 launch of the Green Technology Master Plan. According to him, World Water Day is commemorated annually on March 22 to create awareness among the public, including Keluarga Malaysia (The Malaysian Family), about the significance of water and the necessity to safeguard its sustainability.
On World Water Day, the PM released a statement on his official Facebook page regarding the water sector of the country. He wrote, “Five main strategies were also introduced in the 12th Malaysia Plan to transform the country’s water sector to ensure its sustainability for the benefit of the people in the country”.
The theme of United Nations World Water Day 2022 is, “Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible”. Concerning the theme, Ismail Sabri stated that Malaysia views groundwater as a valuable resource that aids in the process of adapting to climate change and guaranteeing access to a safe water supply. He advised the citizens saying, “Therefore, I urge the whole of Keluarga Malaysia to use water wisely and with great care. Happy World Water Day”.
