A.P. Moller-Maersk (Maersk) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to encourage high-quality investments into Malaysia as one of the ASEAN logistics hubs, improve customer synergies and value-added services, and support the expansion and development of the supply chain sector in the Malaysian economy.

Under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), MIDA is the primary government organization responsible for investment promotion and development in Malaysia’s industrial and service sectors. With its main office in Kuala Lumpur Sentral, MIDA also has 20 offices abroad and 12 regional offices. MIDA is still a key strategic ally for companies looking to seize the advantages brought about by the current technological revolution. Maersk is an integrated container logistics firm that works to link and streamline the supply chains of its clients. The business, which is the industry pioneer in shipping services, has operations in 130 nations and employs over 100,000 people.

At the headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, the MOU was signed by Rupesh Jain, Managing Director of Maersk – Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, and Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO), Investment Promotion and Facilitation of MIDA. “To enable our clients’ transformation of their supply chains to become more flexible, robust, and sustainable, Maersk is consistently expanding our worldwide footprint in logistics. To provide our clients with genuinely integrated logistics, our partnership with MIDA enables us to make use of our capabilities and Malaysia’s geographic advantage to provide solutions in the area said Maersk – Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore Managing Director Rupesh Jain. Goh Hean Chun, the managing director of Maersk Malaysia, said, “Adding value to our clients in the regions where we operate has been one of Maersk’s main priorities. This MOU is a powerful declaration, and we hope that through working with MIDA, we can promote Malaysia as a desirable investment location for potential investors. The nation is a natural center due to its geostrategic location. By significantly strengthening Maersk’s logistics capabilities, we will support the expansion and development of the Malaysian supply chain industry.”
