India (Commonwealth Union)_ Manipal Hospitals has teamed up with the AI health tech business FUJIFILM India to store private medical records and imagery using the latter’s digital technology. Manipal Hospitals will adopt a large-scale Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), thereby removing the need for the manual storage, retrieval, and sharing of sensitive data, films, and reports.

Additionally, the technology will facilitate the storage of medical records and imagery on remote, secure servers. In addition, the PACS software will ensure that such sensitive medical data is accessible via mobile devices and workstations from any place in the world. According to Dilip Jose, the CEO of Manipal Hospitals, this agreement would speed up the network’s digitization efforts and make it more comfortable for physicians and patients.

As a result of the collaboration, the advanced Radiology Information System (RIS) PACS is now available for radiology and cardiology specialty units and is also extendable for future Manipal Hospitals centers. It is capable of handling three million trials per year and is extensible to other clinical specialties. The RIS PACS will also ensure patients compliance by providing them with quick access to medical images from any Manipal Hospital, digital access to reports as and when needed, and diagnosis from a nationwide network of radiologists and cardiologists.

Further, Big tech’s are now investing in AI for healthcare. During the Microsoft Leadership Summit 2022 in India, CEO Satya Nadella said that the tech giant is collaborating with Apollo Hospitals to build a cardiac prognostic model that would be trained using data from South Asians. The ML-supported model will provide a preventive cardiac risk score based on AI. Apollo has also cooperated with several other IT titans besides Microsoft. During the Google for India 2022 event, Google revealed its partnership with Apollo Hospitals in India to improve the application of deep learning models for x-rays and other diagnostic procedures.

In November 2022, Meta AI also developed Galactica, an AI-generated tool that was purported to assist academic scholars by creating extensive literature reviews and Wiki pages on any topic. But, it was a failure owing to inaccurate findings. Meta AI also launched CICERO during the same time by combining natural language processing and strategic reasoning. It is the first artificial intelligence agent to achieve human-like performance in the challenging natural language game ‘Diplomacy’. The AI agent’s SOTA performance while playing against humans on the website exceeded all other players’ averages by more than two to one. In addition, it was in the top 10 percent of those who competed in several games.

As part of the strategic agreement with Manipal Hospitals, the medical imaging technology business will deploy its sophisticated system at 23 hospitals and 45 teleradiology facilities across India that operate under the Manipal Health Enterprises banner. The most up-to-date version of the program will provide patients with digital access to reports anywhere and at any time, while boosting health care diagnostics through virtual appointments, which benefits both patients as well as physicians.
