Mid-air emergency forces…

-

Qantas flight from Singapore to Sydney had to divert to Adelaide following a mid-air emergency.   Qantas flight QF82 which departed at around 9:10 pm en route from Singapore on Wednesday was scheduled to land on Thursday morning in Sydney when the pilot announced an airborne medical emergency, forcing the flight to divert and it landed around 5 a.m. in Adelaide.

No details have been revealed regarding the emergency and the flight later departed Adelaide en route to Sydney.

It marks the third time a Qantas plane has been hit with an emergency mid-flight in less than a week.

On Monday morning A Qantas flight QF1974 operated by subsidiary carrier QantasLink, which was scheduled to land in Canberra at around 1:25 pm made a scheduled departure from Adelaide Airport (ADL) at 11:20 am local time.

Flight data shows that the aircraft had climbed to almost 5000 feet after departure when the incident occurred.

The Cabin crew and passengers began to smell the fumes in the aircraft cabin approximately 10 minutes after takeoff. The information was relayed to the flight crew, leading the pilot to request a priority landing in order to immediately return to Adelaide. https://aviationsourcenews.com/incident/qantas-flight-involved-in-mid-air-turnaround-over-adelaide/#google_vignette

The aircraft which was met by fire crews on its arrival as a precautionary measure, landed safely without incident.

A spokesperson for Qantas said at the time, that the ‘the fumes dissipated quickly, and no one was impacted as a result of the incident’.

The cause of the fumes is not known; however, data shows that the aircraft in question, VH-XVP, subsequently carried out the short hop regional flight on Tuesday 8th August.

Today’s flight departed Adelaide (ADL) at 11:35 am local time on schedule and landed in Canberra (CBR) at 1:25 pm AEST.

The aircraft in question was a 15-year-old Embraer 190-100AR that belonged to the national carriers subsidiary airline QantasLink; having operated under Alliance Air since October 2022.

Another QantasLink aircraft headed from Sydney to Port Macquarie was also diverted after

it suffered a mechanical issue.  QF2162 left Sydney Airport at about 10.50 am on Friday morning but returned and landed safely at 12 pm.

Emergency crews had rushed to meet it.
