His doctoral research on X-ray optics and multilayer mirrors earned him the Justice V.G. Oak Award for Outstanding Thesis in Astronomy in 2020. Following his PhD, Panini joined NASA Marshall Space Flight Center as a postdoctoral fellow, where he focused on developing high-resolution X-ray optics.
In 2024, Panini continued his groundbreaking work by joining the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) to further his research in the X-ray group at MSFC. His primary research areas include improving electroforming replication technology, modeling, and optical design.
