New Zealand (Commonwealth) _ After being severely impacted by COVID-19 and border closures, New Zealand is launching a new tourism campaign with Kiwi filmmaker and actor Taika Waititi in an effort to draw tourists.

On Wednesday, Tourism New Zealand will debut a 3-1/2 minute promotional video featuring the Oscar winner and Jade Daniels, his stunt double in the New Zealand-filmed episodes of the HBO romantic comedy series “Our Flag Means Death.”

According to Tourism New Zealand CEO Rene de Monchy, visitors from the United States are a key target market. The movie, which was shot in December 2022, will also be broadcast on social media in Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, and several regions of Asia.

We must continue to be inventive and at the forefront of people’s minds while the competition heats up and economic conditions are not great in many parts of the world. International tourism was New Zealand’s largest source of foreign exchange and around 5.5% of its gross domestic product prior to COVID and the closing of its borders. Even if travelers are coming back, July’s foreign visitors were still 16% lower than July 2019’s.

Without a question, New Zealand is one of the world’s most picturesque destinations. It’s famed for its beautiful countryside and rolling hills, as well as for serving as the setting for the Lord of the Rings film franchise.

Did you know that Australians make up the majority of visitors to New Zealand? or that they stay in the nation for 13.1 days on average?

The sharp increase is a result of New Zealand reopening its borders following a two-year pandemic ban. Over 265 thousand foreign tourists visited New Zealand in January 2023, a significant increase from the 4,033 arrivals in the same month the previous year.

In 2023, New Zealand is projected to receive 4.9 million foreign visitors. Visits to friends or family accounted for 300 000 of all visitors to New Zealand, who came for this reason. In 2017, Australia sent over 1.5 million tourists to New Zealand, and by 2024, this number is expected to increase by 23%.

A poll done in Q4 2022 revealed that 70% of New Zealand respondents intended to take a domestic vacation over the next 12 months. Prior to the pandemic, tourism accounted for 20.1% of all exports from New Zealand and was the country’s largest exporting sector. International visitors made purchases worth roughly NZ$1.9 billion in 2022, a little rise over 2021.

There are 579 hotels and resorts in New Zealand, and the market there is worth $2 billion, according to IBIS World. The city in New Zealand that receives the most foreign visitors is Auckland. In 2022, 448 000 people visited it. In New Zealand, there were 164 thousand business travelers each year as of April 2023.
