Nigeria (Common Wealth) _ Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country, will attend the G20 conference in New Delhi next weekend and is considering asking to join this group of countries, according to the president.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who took office in May, plans to attend the summit in India, which will discuss trade, the global economy, climate change, and the Ukraine conflict. Nigerian presidency spokesman Ajuri Ngelale said in a statement on Sunday that the country wished to join the G20 but that negotiations were underway inside the government to analyze the benefits to the country.

The government will determine whether or not to apply after the discussions are done, according to the spokeswoman. Part of this goal is the President’s attendance in the G20 conference in India.

On the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bola Tinubu will attend the 18th G20 conference. He will also participate in a round-table discussion with business leaders and businessmen from India and Nigeria.

The Nigerian President and ministers will also undertake bilateral talks to encourage more foreign investment in Nigeria, which is one of the continent’s main oil producers. Since gaining office, Bola Tinubu has implemented a number of measures aimed at revitalizing the economy and attracting greater investment.

The G20 brings together the world’s top economies – 19 countries plus the European Union – which account for 85% of global GDP and two-thirds of global population.

The Brics (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) announced a “historic” enlargement of the emerging countries’ bloc on Thursday, with the inclusion of six new members, including Iran, beginning in January. Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have also joined the organization, which seeks to expand its global influence, according to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the “historic enlargement” and predicted that the Brics will have a “radiant future.” Beijing, as the bloc’s economic heavyweight, supported this expansion, which was the subject of the 15th summit, which began on Tuesday and concludes this evening.

There was no information revealed on the content of the discussions, the support provided, or the criteria utilized in the strategic selection of the new recruits. Negotiations took place behind closed doors on Wednesday at a plenary session and during several bilateral encounters. Forty countries from all across the world had applied or showed an interest in joining. According to the “club of five,” which generates a quarter of the world’s wealth and contains 42% of the world’s population.

Nigeria is an African regional power as well as a middling and growing world power.
