carrying out detailed research and reports on Nigerian products. I give kudos to the sports minister and the sports ministry as it was their initiative to go with a Nigerian brand but more, they were determined to get top quality or go elsewhere.”
Accordingly, the sportswear brand is now determined to leverage on this recent breakthrough, as the company hopes to become the kit partners of the Nigeria’s national football team Super Eagles, and eventually join the big leagues, producing kits for clubs such as Manchester United and Barcelona.
“Talking about the Super Eagles, yes we are looking in that direction too,” the company’s CEO said on Wednesday (14 July). “That will be a dream come true to kit not just the Eagles but the likes of Chelsea, Man United and Barcelona someday. It could be possible in the next couple of years as we have started developing our football brands.”
Describing what he called ‘a Nigerian dream’, the former NBA agent noted that while AFA Sports is less than four years old, considering the brand’s achievements in such a short period, with the help of the innovative ideas of the younger generations, it can only get better in the coming years. “What we are doing here today is to lay a solid foundation for future Nigerians. Nothing is achieved fully with just one generation. We are doing our part now and others will continue,” Ugo added.
