Pakistan (Commonwealth Union)_The world knows her as the youngest Nobel Peace Prize Winner who achieved the honour at a very ripe age of 14 as a commemoration of her efforts in stabilising education systems for girl children around the world after facing struggles herself, but there is so much more to her story that so many females can relate to, and derive inspiration from.
Malala was born in Pakistan in the year 1997. Her father ran a girls’ school in her village and encouraged more girls to attend school and receive a formal primary and secondary education. Things changed drastically for her when the Taliban (an extremists terrorist organisation) took over their region and enforced their extremist views on the people, banning radios and televisions among many other things which included the prohibition of girls attending school.
In the year 2012, young Malala decided to speak up against these forceful impositions and publicly declared her perspective which made her a target. The Taliban mercilessly shot her on the left side of her head, after which she was rushed to Birmingham for medical attention. She woke up ten days later realising for the first time that the entire world displayed solidarity, praying for her speedy recovery.
It was then that she decided that this was enough. More girls did not deserve to be subject to such brutality which snatched them of their basic human rights and transformed into an advocate for the education rights of girls around the world. Sharing her experience as an inspiration to many, she started the Malala Fund with the guidance of her father, and established it into one of the world’s largest charities that focuses primarily on female education.
Her resistance, dedication and tireless efforts have secured the lives of many girls who have been given the freedom to achieve their desired future, and continue to empower girls from numerous regions around the world.
