Islamabad, Pakistan (CU)_ Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan declared on Wednesday that the government would provide direct subsidies to 30 million families across the country in an effort to support the needy. PM Imran Khan, speaking at the inauguration of the ‘No One Sleeps Hungry’ campaign in Islamabad, said that from June 2021, direct subsidies will be given to 30 million poor families in the country.

The Prime Minister said that the Koi Bhoka Na Soye or No One Sleeps Hungry initiative has planned to give food to the laborers and poor people on the roads in a dignified manner through mobile trucks. He said, “Most people in Pakistan are on daily wages and when they don’t get their wages, they have to sleep empty stomach”.

The PM said that to begin with, the Ehsas Food Trucks will work in Islamabad and Rawalpindi with the intention to extend the program to other parts of the country later. He described the initiative as a move towards a welfare state that is always concerned about its disadvantaged and deserving citizens. The PM recommended that the food served at shelter homes and via Ehsas mobile trucks be kept at a high standard. He added, “I always feel happy to see that deserving people are given shelter and food with honor and dignity at various Panahgahs established across Pakistan”.

The PM also stated that the government would launch a direct subsidy program for farmers to help improve the agriculture sector. By June 2021, the Prime Minister plans to introduce a subsidy scheme in which the government will directly credit the money to the accounts of 30 million families. He claimed that this money will be used by the poor and deserving people to obtain kitchen products.

According to PM Imran Khan, farmers will also receive direct subsidies to buy fertilizers and other agricultural inputs. He announced that this initiative will also begin in June of this year. According to Dr Sania Nishtar, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation, the mobile trucks will distribute food at specified points in the twin cities. She claimed that this initiative is being carried out with the assistance of Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal.
