Prince William says British royal family ‘very much not racist’

-

LONDON (CU)_Prince William on Thursday (11 March) denied that British royals were racist after his younger brother Harry’s wife said an unnamed member of the family had raised concerns regarding how dark their son Archie’s skin might be.

During a visit to a school in east London, William said that he had not spoken to Harry since the interview, which was aired in Britain on Monday.

“I haven’t spoken to him yet but I will do,” William said.

When a reporter inquired if the royal family was racist, William said: “We’re very much not a racist family.”

During Megan and Harry’s tell-all TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, the former claimed that the royals had ignored her pleas for help when she felt suicidal, while Harry said that he felt trapped in his royal life and that his father, Prince Charles, had let him down.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, Buckingham Palace issued a statement on behalf of Queen Elizabeth, saying the whole family is “saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been” for the pair.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately,” the statement added. “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

During the two-hour show, which was watched by 12.4 million viewers in Britain and 17.1 million in the United States, Megan said that while she was pregnant with Archie, there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

Although neither she nor Harry revealed who voiced these concerns, Winfrey later told CBS that Harry had said it was not the Queen nor her husband Prince Philip.
