Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and the State of the African Diaspora (SOAD) have joined forces to deepen connections between the African continent and its global diaspora. This partnership, marked by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at PAP’s headquarters in South Africa, signifies a bold step toward fostering unity, peace, and development. The agreement sets a collaborative foundation to address shared challenges and harness opportunities for growth.
The MoU outlines several key initiatives designed to bridge geographical and cultural divides. Among them is the organisation of an Africa-Diaspora Summit, a landmark event to foster dialogue and collaboration. The establishment of a permanent African Diaspora Desk within the Pan-African Parliament will ensure continuous representation and provide a platform for addressing critical issues. SOAD’s participation in PAP sessions will further solidify this partnership, bringing diaspora voices to the table in shaping Africa’s future.
Both organisations have committed to joint celebrations of African Diaspora Day and collaborative efforts to raise funds for projects that benefit communities worldwide. The agreement prioritises knowledge-sharing, advocacy, and public awareness campaigns, underscoring the importance of addressing global challenges with collective action.
The partnership is guided by a strategic plan of action that ensures initiatives are impactful, resources are managed effectively, and efforts remain focused. An annual review will evaluate progress, ensuring that the collaboration adapts to evolving needs while maintaining transparency and accountability. To amplify their impact, PAP and SOAD will engage with international organisations, mobilise resources, and leverage media platforms to promote their shared mission.
H.E. Chief Fortune Charumbira, President of PAP, heralded the agreement as a turning point for African unity. “This collaboration represents a new chapter in improving lives across the globe. Now is the time for Africans everywhere to unite for a common cause.” Similarly, Dr. Louis-Georges Tin, Prime Minister of SOAD, called the MoU a “historic moment that forges an unprecedented bond between the continent and its diaspora.”
By uniting resources and expertise, PAP and SOAD aim to address global inequalities and elevate Africa’s voice on the world stage. This partnership serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating how collective efforts can create a more inclusive, prosperous future for Africa and its diaspora.
