New York, USA (CWBN)_ Pfizer has shipped over 500,000 doses of its vaccine from its manufacturing plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan, via the United States Parcel Service and FedEx, to central distribution centres, and 145 departments and hospitals, a spokesperson for the company announced earlier today.

However, transporting the vaccine has proved tricky given the requirement for keeping it at minus 70.5 degrees Celsius (-95 degrees Fahrenheit).

It is expected that healthcare workers and care-home residents will be among the first to receive the jab once the immunization campaign begins over the next two days. The general populace would have to await their turn as the company continues to grind out doses.

Pfizer has pledged to provide about 25 million doses to the US within the month, starting with a batch of 2.9 million doses in the next seven days. Given that immunization requires 2 doses per person, it is expected that about 1.45 million people will be will receive their shots.

On the 12th of December, Chief Operating Officer for the Operation Warp Speed vaccination campaign, General Gustave Perna said that doses will initially cover about 636 sites across the US today (14th Dec), while another 425 sites will receive their supplies by tomorrow, and another 66 sites by Wednesday.
