Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ The Indian diaspora is brimming with excitement and pride as Prime Minister Narendra Modi gears up for a historic visit to Austria, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 40 years. This highly anticipated trip is set to bolster cultural and economic ties between India and Austria, marking a significant milestone in their bilateral relationship.
Currently on a two-day visit to Russia, PM Modi was warmly welcomed in Moscow by Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. At the hotel, a group of enthusiastic members of the Indian diaspora greeted him, reflecting the widespread admiration for the Prime Minister.
Following his engagements in Russia, PM Modi will head to Austria. Samir, a resident of Maharashtra, expressed his joy to ANI, stating, “It’s great that PM Narendra Modi is coming here. It has been 40 years since an Indian PM visited this country. This visit will significantly enhance cultural and economic ties between the two nations.”
Gaurav from Punjab, who has lived in Vienna for 12 years, shared his excitement: “PM Modi is coming here, and I am really happy. My eyes are yearning to see him. After 40 years, an Indian PM is coming to Austria. We are all eagerly looking forward to his arrival.”
Amarjeet from Chandigarh, who has spent the last 23 years in Austria, emphasized the significance of the visit: “It’s a big thing that an Indian PM is coming here after 40 years. The Indian community here, numbering around 30,000 to 35,000, is thrilled. Those who get to see PM Modi will be very fortunate.”
Vikramjeet Singh from Punjab, also a long-time resident of Vienna, highlighted the potential benefits of the visit: “PM Modi’s visit will help boost the tourism sector in Austria. An Indian PM coming here after 40 years is a matter of happiness for Austria. His visit will likely increase tourism and be very helpful.”
PM Modi himself expressed optimism about the visit. “In Austria, I will have the opportunity to meet President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Karl Nehammer. Austria is our steadfast and reliable partner, and we share the ideals of democracy and pluralism,” he said.
He added, “This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister in over 40 years. I look forward to our discussions to elevate our partnership in new and emerging areas of innovation, technology, and sustainable development. Together with the Austrian Chancellor, I am eager to explore mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities with business leaders from both sides. I will also be interacting with the Indian community in Austria, which is well-regarded for its professionalism and conduct.”
