PM Modi votes in the 2022 Presidential Elections at Parliament House

New Delhi, India (CU)_ Prime Minister Narendra Modi cast the first vote in Parliament, as voting for the presidential election between NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu and opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha began today in New Delhi. The voting started at 10 in the morning at the Parliament House and state legislative assemblies in order to elect the 15th President of India, and the MPs and MLAs cast their ballots. The voting process will end at 5 pm, and the vote counting will be held on July 21.

Prior to the beginning of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday asked all members to engage with an open mind in the discussions and debates, thus making the session useful and productive. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated, “There should be dialogue in the Parliament with an open mind, if necessary, there should be a debate. I urge all MPs to contemplate deeply and discuss matters to make this session as fruitful and productive as possible”.

In addition, the Prime Minister provided an update on the forthcoming Presidential and Vice-Presidential elections. He said, “This Session is also important because elections for the office of President and Vice President are taking place right now. Voting (for the Presidential election) is taking place today. During this period, the new President and Vice President will begin guiding the nation.”

Today is the day of the Presidential Election, while the Vice Presidential Election will be conducted on August 6. The Prime Minister detailed the importance of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. He said, “This period is very important. It is the period of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. There is a special significance of August 15 and the coming 25 years – when the nation would celebrate 100 years of independence, would be the time to make a resolution to decide our journey and the new heights we scale.”

The Parliament’s Monsoon Session began today and will last through August 12. At the monsoon session, the opposition is anticipated to highlight concerns about inflation, the Agneepath plan, and unemployment. Additionally, a number of bills, including the Family Courts (Amendment) Bill, the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, and the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, are anticipated to be considered during the session.
