Pope Leo Responds to Trump Criticism Over War and Iran Nuclear Claims

Tensions have grown between Pope Leo and US President Donald Trump. Pope Leo has replied to criticism from US President Donald Trump. He said his role is to share the gospel and promote peace and that people are free to disagree with him. Trump recently claimed that the Pope believed it was OK for Iran to have nuclear weapons. The Vatican has denied the claim and said the Pope has never made such a statement. The Pope has instead spoken against war and rising conflict in the Middle East.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit the Vatican for two days. The US State Department said the visit will focus on relations with Italy and the Vatican. They will also discuss the Middle East and other shared global issues.

Rubio said the trip was planned earlier and not meant to fix tensions between Trump and the Vatican. He added there is much to discuss. Pope Leo has repeated his call for peace. He said the Church must spread the message of the Gospel and peace. He also said he accepts criticism but hopes people listen to his message of peace. He stressed that war should be avoided and dialogue should be used instead, as he believes that peaceful communication can lead to better understanding and resolution of conflicts.

Trump has strongly criticised the Pope. He called him “weak on crime” and said he is bad for foreign policy, arguing that the Pope’s views undermine the United States‘ position on global issues. Trump also claimed the Pope was chosen because he is American and meant to influence his presidency. He repeated these claims on social media and in interviews. He also posted an image showing himself in a religious-style pose, which was later removed. Trump later said it was meant to show him as a doctor.

The Vatican and US officials have said there is no deep division between them. The US ambassador to the Holy See stated that dialogue and cooperation can resolve disagreements. US Vice-President JD Vance defended Trump and said the Vatican should focus on moral issues rather than politics.

Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has also been involved in the diplomatic tension. She has supported the pope’s call for peace in the Middle East. She is expected to meet Rubio during his visit to Italy.

Despite disagreements, officials say talks will continue. Both sides insist they want dialogue and stability rather than conflict. Observers say the dispute highlights ongoing tensions between politics religion and global security debates issues today.
