NIGERIA (Commonwealth Union) – There has been some horrific isolated incidents happening in Nigeria lately and the latest one is when a 68-year-old principal had been defiling a 10-year-old girl who is one of the students in the school he works. This has been happening for a little while before it came to light.
He was promptly arrested and has been going to courts for the past few months. The fact that he was in a position of power and possibly scared the girl into submitting to his vile acts makes it all the worse. The parents of the child are outraged and have notified every other parent of the school of what has been happening.
The Osogbo magistrate took this matter very seriously and made sure that justice was served on their watch. The principal who has been named as Ayodele Faremi was then remanded by the courts. The courts further explained that he was being charged with three counts; rape, sexual exploitation and assault.
The court system is hoping to get him guilty on all charges so that his sentencing will be life in prison. The courts agree that this is the worst of all crimes as a child has been harmed and possibly scarred for the rest of her life.
The Nigerian lawmakers want to make sure that this kind of horrendous acts never take place and that parents can be assured of their children’s safety when they are at school. There have been laws put in place for school systems to make sure that when they hire someone, they are very well aware of this person’s background.
This kind of horrific act was not taken lightly.
