Queen Elizabeth II meets baby Lilibet

SANTA BARBARA, California (CU)_The daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex became the first of the Queen’s great-grandchildren to be born outside the UK, as the couple welcomed Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor in Santa Barbara, California, on Friday (4 June). According to sources, Meghan and Harry called the Queen after they returned home following the birth, and Her Royal Highness met her new-born great-granddaughter via video call. Little Lili’s name serves as a tribute to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, as well the Queen, who was affectionately referred to as “Lilibet” by her late husband Prince Philip.

The couple was “very excited and couldn’t wait to share that their daughter arrived”, sources said.

“The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
