Rafael Nadal to withdraw from Qatar Open due to injury

-

Global (Commonwealth) _  Due to persistent physical issues, Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the Qatar Open and announced the two tournaments he will play in next.

Due to injuries, the 22-time Grand Slam winner was forced to miss nearly the whole 2023 season in addition to the Australian Open at the beginning of this year. Nadal and Andy Murray were supposed to make a comeback in Doha, but the Spaniard has since stated that he is “not ready” to play again.

Before the 37-year-old decides to end his tennis career, the 2024 season is probably going to be his last one. He has disclosed the next two tournaments he plans to play.

“I wish I could have played in Doha, where the Qatari fans and the tournament team have always been so supportive,” Rafael Nadal wrote on X. Sadly, I am not prepared to participate and I will not be able to travel to Doha, where I had hoped to play again following that incredible victory in 2014. “I’ll concentrate on working hard to get ready for the incredible Indian Wells tournament and the exhibition in Las Vegas.”

Following his announcement as the Saudi Tennis Federation’s new ambassador, Rafael Nadal has come under fire. However, Wimbledon victor Carlos Alcaraz has spoken up for fellow Spaniard and idol Rafael Nadal over his multimillion-dollar Saudi agreement.

Alcaraz remarked, “I don’t think it’s bad personally.” What better way to introduce tennis to a nation that is still developing than for Rafa to arrive and take the game to new heights?
