Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _Congress leader Rahul Gandhi commenced his three-day visit to the United States, beginning his tour in Dallas, Texas, where he was greeted warmly by members of the Indian diaspora and the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC). The Congress leader arrived in Dallas on Sunday, and his arrival was met with enthusiasm from supporters who had gathered to welcome him.
Expressing his gratitude on social media, Rahul Gandhi posted pictures of the warm reception he received, writing, “I am truly delighted by the warm welcome I’ve received in Dallas, Texas, USA, from the Indian Diaspora and members of the Indian Overseas Congress.” He added, “I eagerly look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions and insightful conversations that will further strengthen the bond between our two nations during this visit.” This marks Gandhi’s first visit to the US since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
During his visit, Gandhi is scheduled to be in Dallas on September 8 and in Washington, D.C., from September 9 to 10. IOC chief Sam Pitroda, announcing Gandhi’s visit earlier, highlighted the enthusiasm of the Indian diaspora, including non-resident Indian (NRI) residents, technocrats, business leaders, students, media professionals, and political figures, all eager to interact with the Congress MP.
Pitroda emphasized that various events have been planned to engage with a wide range of people, especially those interested in states governed by the Congress party, such as the tech hubs of Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune. “We see great interest in conversation with the business and technological community,” he added, noting the potential for significant discussions.
“We look forward to a very successful visit and welcoming Rahul Gandhi to the US,” Pitroda concluded. He mentioned that he had received numerous inquiries about Gandhi’s trip, underlining the high anticipation surrounding the Congress leader’s visit to the US.
Following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi has been gaining momentum and garnering support for his views on several public interest issues. Many political observers expect this visit to the US to generate significant news and possibly stir discussions back in India.
Rahul Gandhi, who contested the 2024 elections from two Lok Sabha constituencies, Rae Bareli and Wayanad, chose to retain Rae Bareli and vacated Wayanad for his sister, Priyanka Gandhi. In June, he was appointed the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, following approval from the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
