Rivers allot N5 billion for the renovation of health facilities

According to the Health Commissioner, the Prof. Kersley Harrison hospital work would be completed in 13 months, and on completion, it would be joined with the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, to enhance medical doctor and medical personnel training.

Chike revealed the total cost of the revamping. He said, “For the Prof. Kersley Harrison Hospital in Port Harcourt, the civil work is to cost One Billion, Seven Million, Two Hundred and Five Thousand, Nine Hundred and Forty One Naira, Fifty One Kobo. He added, “While the equipping, furnishing and installation of medical equipment will cost Six Hundred and Ninety Three Million, Five Hundred and Seventy Six Thousand, Three Hundred and Sixty Seven Naira and Twenty Five Kobo”.

According to Chike, on completion of the Dental and Maslofacial Hospital work, it will be linked with the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital for the purpose of educating and training medical professionals. He disclosed the total cost of the work. He said, “The civil work is to cost One Billion, Seven Hundred and Eighty Nine Million, Three Hundred and Ninety Five Thousand, Seven Hundred and Forty Three Naira, Eighty Seven Kobo only. He added, “While, the equipping, installation and furnishing will cost One Billion, Five Hundred and Ninety Million Six Hundred and Seventy One Thousand and Forty Seven Naira, Thirty One Kobo”.

Additionally, the Commissioner explained why the Mother and Child Hospital has not yet begun full operations following its formal inauguration. He stated that the Executive Council had already employed an approved Executive Council committee that is collaborating with the Bureau of Public/Private Procurement to ensure that essential procedures for a smooth beginning of the hospital are in place to confirm that the facility can continue to provide the best possible service to the public.

According to Chike, the State Executive Council was updated on the clearance given by the Medical and Dental Council to the Rivers State University College of Medical Sciences to enroll one hundred students every session. According to the Health Commissioner, the statistics showed that the state’s Covid-19 case count has continued to rise due to citizens’ refusal to follow the Covid-19 guidelines. He urged citizens to avoid crowded venues including weddings, funerals, celebrations, and market areas, and advised them to routinely wash their hands, and wear facemasks.
