Diaspora (Commonwealth Union) _ In a significant diplomatic milestone, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Emmanuel Hategeka, officially presented his letters of credence to President Nangolo Mbumba of Namibia on January 31. This formal occasion not only reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to fostering deeper bilateral relations with Namibia but also set the stage for enhanced cooperation across multiple sectors. With his residence in Pretoria, Hategeka’s new role as Rwanda’s representative in Namibia underscores the growing ties between the two nations, reflecting a shared vision for economic development, cultural exchange, and strategic collaboration.
During the presentation, Hategeka conveyed President Paul Kagame’s warm greetings, reaffirming Rwanda’s dedication to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and social relations with Namibia. He emphasized that the historic bonds between the two countries have been reinforced by past high-level state visits, including engagements between President Kagame and the late Namibian leader Hage Geingob. This legacy of friendship and cooperation continues to flourish under President Mbumba’s leadership, with both nations committed to expanding avenues of mutual growth and prosperity.
As part of his diplomatic mission, Hategeka pledged to bolster collaborations in key areas such as agriculture, tourism, education, information and communication technology (ICT), and technical exchanges. This effort builds upon the General Cooperation Agreement (GCA) signed in 2023, a foundational framework that facilitates joint initiatives in trade, investment, and infrastructure development. Recognizing Namibia’s strategic economic aspirations, Hategeka also extended an invitation for Namibian investors and businesses to explore opportunities in Rwanda, reinforcing the two nations’ shared commitment to economic diplomacy.
President Mbumba, in turn, expressed his appreciation for Rwanda’s engagement, highlighting the deep-rooted friendship between Kagame and Geingob and their shared vision for African unity and development. He underscored the importance of promoting trade, tourism, peace, and security, essential pillars for advancing economic stability and regional cooperation. Additionally, Mbumba acknowledged Rwanda’s reputation for cleanliness and urban planning, playfully suggesting that the two nations should continue competing in maintaining high environmental standards, thereby fostering a culture of excellence in sustainability.
Furthering his diplomatic engagements in Windhoek, Hategeka held discussions with Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, where he presented a copy of his credentials. Their talks focused on fortifying bilateral agreements, exploring policy frameworks that facilitate easier trade relations, and enhancing people-to-people ties through educational and cultural exchange programs. Both officials agreed on the necessity of streamlining bureaucratic processes to encourage cross-border investments and improve trade flows between the two nations.
Hategeka also paid a courtesy visit to Nangula Uaandja, CEO of the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), with the aim of fostering a bridge between the public and private sectors. Their discussions revolved around enhancing economic diplomacy through stronger business-to-business connections, facilitating trade missions, and identifying priority sectors where both nations can leverage each other’s strengths. Both parties committed to organizing business delegations between Rwanda and Namibia to unlock investment opportunities, encourage industrial growth, and foster innovation-driven collaborations.
