Global (Commonwealth): According to the world’s governing body, FIFA, Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 men’s football World Cup, while Spain, Portugal, and Morocco will share hosting duties for the 2030 competition.

To commemorate the competition’s 100th anniversary, three games in the 2030 tournament are going to take place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.

The Extraordinary FIFA Congress meeting on Wednesday confirmed the hosts of both World Cups through a vote. Through a video link, representatives from all 211 of FIFA’s member countries attended the conference.

Two different ballots were used to confirm the hosts for the 2030 centennial celebrations as well as for both tournaments. The initial choice for the centennial was Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina.

The second event confirmed Saudi Arabia’s selection as the host of the 2034 tournament and as one of the three hosts for 2030. Nations cast their votes by clapping in front of their cameras through their video links.

There was only one way to vote in each of the three decisions, and before the applause, FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafstrom stated that all 211 [member associations] had essentially cast their votes before the congress.

Issues with the existing FIFA World Cup bidding procedure, not Saudi Arabia’s selection as the host nation, led Norway to choose not to participate. The Swiss Football Association also asked for the inclusion of its observations in the congress minutes.

The Saudi candidacy for the 2034 World Cup was approved by the Swiss FA on Tuesday. However, the international labor organization and FIFA must both keep an eye on the human rights demands.

The Danish Football Union (DBU) stated that while it approved of the two World Cup bids as a whole, it wants FIFA to supervise the advancements in human rights. DBU chairman Jesper Moller stated that they are critical of the entire process and would have preferred to see more proposals for the 2030 and 2034 World Cups.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has been accused of “sportswashing,” which is the practice of utilizing its extraordinary spending on sports to enhance the oil-producing kingdom’s standing in relation to its environmental effect and human rights record.

The 2034 World Cup will host games at 15 venues, four of which have already undergone construction. In the meantime, Amnesty International issued a joint statement on behalf of 21 different organizations denouncing the choice to host the 2034 World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Many lives will be lost as a result of FIFA’s careless choice to give the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia without making sure sufficient human rights safeguards are in place, according to Steve Cockburn, head of labor rights and sport for Amnesty International.

“while the overwhelming evidence to date, FIFA has decided to move forward while knowing that workers in Saudi Arabia will be exploited and possibly killed in the absence of significant reforms.

The organization runs the possibility of being held heavily accountable for many of the ensuing violations of human rights. The Scottish and Welsh Football Associations, along with the English Football Association, supported the bids.

After carefully examining both proposals, England’s FA announced in a statement that it backed the two World Cup bids, one from Saudi Arabia in 2034 and the other from Spain/Portugal/Morocco in 2030. Both bids satisfy FIFA’s requirements for hosting the men’s World Cup and are technically sound.

Making sure all of our fans can come and enjoy competitions is our main priority. The Football Supporters’ Association reports that the decision-making process for these World Cups and the experience of being a supporter have deeply troubled fans, particularly in Saudi Arabia.

Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, addressed the criticism directed at the organization over the decisions. “I completely trust our hosts to deal with all open points, and we are aware of critics and fears,” he stated.

Our transparency will shape real and long-lasting change. We anticipate and look forward to societal advancements and favorable effects on human rights. “The entire world will undoubtedly be watching, and it is one of the duties of hosting a World Cup.

The Football Association claims to have backed Saudi Arabia’s World Cup hosting candidacy in 2034 after receiving assurances that every fan would be welcome and safe.
