It isn’t the first time an artist work has been used and not given credit for but it will possibly not be the last time either. For South Australian artist Elle Campbell it was a shock. Her art that she has shown on exhibit was used on the Guernsey of the Port Adelaide team.

Port Adelaide has started and investigation to look into the matter of this accusation of stealing art work. It all began when they had a competition amongst schools to see which student could come up with a design for them team to put on ther team clothes and merchandise. The girl who won the competition claimed that she had spent weeks making the artwork after she was inspired by something she had seen on Instagram.

The artwork itself had been printed on the merchandise and had started to sell as well as the team players uniforms that they wore when they played. Elle Campbell saw this design on the jumper and realized that it was something that had been stolen from her.

Elle Campbell is an artist who does artwork mostly based on her family stories and inspiration. The painting that was used for the Port Adelaide jumper was something she had painted back in May 2019 and had documented on her Instagram account. When Elle saw the jersey she knew the artwork had been taken and she had been credited from it.

Elle went on to quote on social media “Wow. This is MY painting, someone has submitted it as their own and PAFC are using it for their Guernsey. Not just similarities, it’s my exact painting. 98 weeks ago on my story if anyone’s wondering. This was up at Flinders Medical Centre for an exhibition on the 28th May 2019.” Elle then tagged the football club and stated that she was deeply hurt by this.

Elle says the meaning behind the painting is “The meaning behind this painting was of my family’s ancestral burial ground at Kingston S.E. and the connection we still have with the native flora and fauna on those lands. My mother had sent me a photo of some Kangaroos coming out from the scrub to go have a dip in the water which was the inspiration for this painting.”
