Singapore Airlines Soars Higher: Brisbane Route Returns Bigger and Better Than Ever!

Singapore Airlines has announced the highly anticipated return of its pre-pandemic flight frequencies on the Brisbane route, marking a significant milestone in its post-COVID recovery. Starting June 16, 2025, the airline will operate four daily flights between Singapore and Brisbane, exceeding pre-pandemic seat capacity levels with the deployment of Airbus A350 Medium Haul aircraft on all services.

This development represents a 12% increase in weekly services, raising the frequency from the current 25 flights per week to 28. Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff described the announcement as a landmark moment, celebrating the recovery of a critical route for Queensland after a challenging five-year period.

Restored Schedule and Connectivity

The new flight, SQ265/266, will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, filling gaps in the existing schedule to ensure daily service across all four flights. SQ265 will depart Singapore Changi Airport at 7:10 AM and arrive in Brisbane at 4:45 PM local time. This timing supports seamless connections from major global destinations such as London, Paris, Rome, India, and the USA.

On the return leg, SQ266 will depart Brisbane at 6:10 PM, arriving in Singapore shortly after midnight the following day. The schedule aligns well with onward connections to Europe, North Asia, and South Africa, reinforcing Singapore Airlines’ reputation as a preferred carrier for international travelers.

Increased seat capacity on the route

The airline is also boosting the Brisbane route seat capacity to 104% of pre-pandemic levels by operating all flights with the 303-seat Airbus A350 Medium Haul aircraft, which offers 40 Business Class seats and 263 Economy Class seats.

A detailed comparison shows a 7% increase in Economy Class seats compared to July 2019, while Business Class capacity remains nearly unchanged. The removal of the Premium Economy cabin, previously available on one daily flight, accounts for the slight overall capacity shift.

Brisbane’s Growing International Market

Brisbane Airport recorded its busiest month ever in December 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic passenger levels. Singapore is now Brisbane’s second-busiest international route after Auckland, reflecting strong demand for travel between the two cities.

India has emerged as a key market for Singapore Airlines on this route, with more than half of all Indian visitors to Brisbane traveling via the airline in 2024. The carrier also transported significant numbers of Singaporean and British travelers, highlighting its crucial role in driving tourism and business travel to Queensland.

Implications for Business Class Travelers

With the switch to Airbus A350 Medium Haul aircraft, all four daily flights will now feature the 2018 Regional Business Class seats. While these seats represent Singapore Airlines’ newest product in this category, many passengers find them less spacious and comfortable compared to the airline’s long-haul Business Class offerings.

Before the pandemic, one daily flight (SQ245/246) operated with the Airbus A350 Long Haul aircraft, which featured the 2013 Business Class seats and a Premium Economy cabin. Passengers on this route will now lose access to the more spacious long-haul Business Class seats as well as the Premium Economy option.

KrisFlyer Redemption Options

The airline continues to offer competitive KrisFlyer redemption rates on the Singapore-Brisbane route. Taxes and fees amount to approximately S$100 for flights departing Singapore and S$94 for those departing Brisbane. Passengers can use their miles to enjoy the convenience and service for which Singapore Airlines is renowned.

A Milestone in Recovery

Singapore Airlines’ move to restore full pre-pandemic frequencies on its Brisbane route signals a robust recovery in the aviation industry. By exceeding pre-COVID seat capacity and aligning schedules for better connectivity, the airline is poised to meet increasing demand from international travelers.

With Brisbane Airport recording its busiest month ever and India becoming a significant market, the Singapore-Brisbane route is set to remain a vital link for tourism and commerce. While the absence of Premium Economy and long-haul Business Class cabins may disappoint some travelers, the enhanced frequency and connectivity options are likely to offset these concerns for many passengers.
