Africa (Commonwealth Union) _ Troops from Operation HADIN KAI, a military operation in the North East region of Nigeria, have successfully neutralized members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) who were attempting to cross the Nigerian territory from the Cameroon border.

According to the Military High Command, the terrorists, numbering five, were ambushed and killed based on intelligence reports. The incident took place along Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. Additionally, the operation resulted in the capture of 10 terrorists alive.

Maj.-Gen. ES Buba, the newly appointed Director of Defence Media Operations, conveyed this information at a briefing held at Defence Headquarters in Abuja. Speaking on behalf of Buba, Brig.-Gen. Abdullahi Ibrahim informed journalists that the troops recovered weapons, arms, and various logistics items, including bags of flour and detergent, from the terrorists. Furthermore, their collaborators were also arrested.

The military continues to intensify operations against terrorists, including their suppliers and collaborators, in the Northeast zone of the country as part of Operation HADIN KAI. On June 22, 2023, based on intelligence reports of terrorists crossing from Cameroon into Nigeria, troops laid an ambush in Bula Yobe-Darel Jamel. They engaged the terrorists in a firefight, resulting in the neutralization of five Boko Haram/ISWAP members and the recovery of one bag each of flour and detergent.

Providing a striking update, the senior military officer revealed that a substantial influx of surrendered terrorists has occurred across several locations within the joint area of operations. This surrender encompassed a diverse group, consisting of adult males, adult females, and children. Astonishingly, the combined number of surrendering individuals reached 967, comprising 82 adult males, 354 adult females, and a staggering 531 children. This development holds significant implications for the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, highlighting the impact and effectiveness of targeted operations in inspiring renouncement and encouraging a path towards peace and reconciliation.
