Commonwealth _Canada _ According to the Department of Natural Resources, the flames in the Halifax area have been completely controlled after causing devastation for a week. The Tantallon-Westwood Hills fire is now thought to be 950 hectares in size, according to a notice from DNR authorities on Sunday. On the site still are about 80 firemen. Soon before 3 p.m., an emergency notice was issued. Folks in the region east of Stillwater Lake may return at 4 p.m. and residents of Glen Arbour could do so immediately.

According to the advisory, the Stillwater Lake area must be entered from the Tantallon side since Hammonds Plains Road is restricted. The advisory stated that Bedford side is the only way to get to Glen Arbour. 150 houses and more than 200 structures were damaged or destroyed by the fire after it started last Saturday.

The Sunday report also stated that a much smaller blaze in Hammonds Plains, about four hectares in size, had been put out. Residents in “areas of significant impact” were invited to the Canada Games Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday to view pictures of damaged houses and chat with municipal workers about the condition of their residences, the Halifax Regional Municipality stated on Sunday. The news announcement said that significant insurance firms will also be present.

Construction has already begun on the Haliburton Hills exit, which will link Buckingham Drive to Highway 103. Once it is safe to do so, the clearing in Highland Park will start and stretch from the end of Sylvania Terrace to the Hammonds Plains Road, according to authorities.
