Male, Maldives (CU)_ This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for any maritime fanatic. The fortunate intern will be transported to the Maldives in September for a three-week internship. Around 2,500 unique coral reefs exist here, with this sort of ecology predominating across the archipelago. They are critical habitat for marine life, offer food for the local residents, and preserve the shoreline. However, increasing sea temperatures, ocean acidification, bleaching, and shifting weather patterns are some of the challenges they currently encounter. In 2016, a huge bleaching event devastated more than 60% of the region’s corals.

According to Rosalie Bailie, Marine Educator at Coco Collection, “The Maldives faces increasing environmental and social challenges as its popularity grows and we all have a part to play in ensuring that the beautiful, but fragile, ecosystems remain intact”. According to Bailie, sustainability was the goal of the resort’s operations, from tree planting programs to its cooperation with the Olive Ridley Project, a marine turtle conservation organization.

Bailie added, “We know we have a duty to protect this unique ecosystem for the immediate and future generations. We hope our new intern will reflect this ethos and we are looking forward to receiving applications for this fantastic opportunity to come join the team and continue their eco mission.”
