MUMBAI, India (Commonwealth Union)_ Suriya won the National Film Award for his outstanding performance in Soorarai Pottru. The 68th National Film Awards ceremony took place in Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan. At the renowned ceremony, Suriya was accompanied by his wife, actress Jyotika, their kids Diya and Dev, and his parents. Soorarai Pottru was helmed by Sudha Kongara Prasad and Suriya and Jyotika collaborated to produce the film.
Following the award, the actor celebrated the winning moment with his family and shared a picture-perfect moment, and thanked his director Sudha Kongara Prasad in the caption. He wrote: “Ever grateful Sudha. Hearty congratulations to all the winners. This one’s for you Anbana fans.” He hashtagged the post with “Soorarai Pottru” and “National Film Awards”.
Suriya’s followers, also known as Anbana fans, filled the comments area with red hearts and fire emojis. In the meantime, Aparna Balamurali won the Best Actress prize for Soorarai Pottru. The film also received the prize for the Best Feature Film. Jyotika shared her joy with the Instagram community and wrote: “Proud and blessed”. The celebrity couple enjoyed the cherishing moment with their kids Diya and Dev and their parents. They too shared an adorable family photograph holding the awards.
In addition, the film also won awards for Best Screenplay and Best Background Score. Suriya and Ajay Devgn shared the Best Actor prize for their roles in Soorarai Pottru and Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, respectively. Previously, Ajay Devgn won the Best Actor for Zakhm in 1998 and The Legend of Bhagat Singh in 2002. Following the national awards ceremony, the actor uploaded a video on social media.
Ajay Devgn captioned his post as, “Not counting the wins or the blessings, just feeling grateful for all of it. Most importantly, your love. I share this win with all of you. Honored to receive my awards from the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu.” Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior also received the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Om Raut is the director of the film. The movie featured Kajol, Sharad Kelkar, and Saif Ali Khan.
