California, USA (CU)_ Will Smith and Chris Rock’s contentious moment at the 94th Academy Awards drew attention to Alopecia. Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars ceremony for making fun over his wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair. She battles alopecia, a disorder that results in hair loss.

In 2018, Jada Pinkett Smith revealed her diagnosis in her Red Talk series. She described how terrible it was when the alopecia began and how she used to find a “handful of hair” when showering. In July 2021, she unveiled her shaven head. Jada Pinkett Smith shared a series of images and videos and captioned it as, “Willow made me do it because it was time to let go but…My 50’s are about to be divinely lit with this shed.”

Jada Pinkett Smith continues to inspire her Instagram family with positive postings. In December of 2021, she posted an Instagram video of her shorn head with the caption, “Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something. Me and this alopecia are going to be friends … period.” However, Jada Pinkett Smith is not the only victim of alopecia. Viola is one of the top actors who is battling this ailment. She is most recognized for her work in How to Get Away With Murder. Viola Davis revealed during a media interview that she frequently donned wigs to conceal her uneven hair loss.

The popular singer and former X Factor finalist stated that she began to notice hair loss during her school days. Jesy began losing her hair when she was almost 13 years old. She explained that stress is one of the factors that contribute to alopecia.

The model and television host of the popular show America’s Next Top Model is always immaculately dressed. However, she confessed that she battled alopecia, a condition induced by stress. During a media  interview, she stated, “I got a little alopecia from the stress.”

The artist has been a vocal advocate for alopecia awareness. Additionally, she hosted a charity concert to raise funds for Alopecia UK. During her first television appearance, Ella stated, “It was quite a hard time, I lost all the hair off my head when I was in my last year of primary school.”

Sharing her condition with the media, she said, “It’s a really disheartening experience. I had times where I wanted to cry because I wasn’t sure if I’d ever have my hair grow back again.”

Now, returning to Will Smith’s Oscars slap incident with Chris Rock, the actor openly apologized to the comedian. He stated, “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be”.
