Tata Steel drops plans to sell European business

MUMBAI (CU)_In June 2018, Tata Steel signed a definitive agreement with Thyssenkrupp of Germany to combine their steel businesses in Europe and to a create a joint venture which would have been the second-largest steel company in continent after Lakshmi Mittal’s ArcelorMittal. However, a year later, the deal was blocked by the antitrust regulators of the European Union, who claimed that the proposed joint venture would push up prices and reduce competition.
