At the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, the volunteers discussed with the royal couple about the services that are being offered at the centre, as well as the challenges they face in assisting those fleeing Ukraine. The Duke and Duchess also spoke with the chief executive of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), Saleh Saeed, regarding the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, to which Her Majesty the Queen made a “generous donation” last week, according to the DEC.

During their visit, the couple brought homemade treats from their Kensington Palace kitchen, including granola bars and chocolate brownies for the volunteers. The Cambridges were the very first members of the Royal Family to offer words of support for Ukraine. Just a couple of days following Russia’s invasion of the country the couple issued a statement on their joint Twitter account. “In October 2020 we had the privilege to meet President Zelenskyy and the First Lady to learn of their hope and optimism for Ukraine’s future,” the statement read. “Today we stand with the President and all of Ukraine’s people as they bravely fight for that future.”
