The government supports CareFlight to boost the Aeromedical Fleet

-

Australia (Commonwealth Union)_ Great news for the Top End! The Albanese Government has come through on its promise, granting CareFlight a generous $19.95 million to bolster their lifesaving aeromedical services. This means a second rescue helicopter and an aeromedical jet will soon be hitting the skies.

With this funding, CareFlight will be able to significantly expand its fleet in the Northern Territory. This is a game-changer, allowing them to swiftly respond to crisis situations and provide crucial medical assistance in Northern Australia.

The additional helicopter is a true hero, extending CareFlight’s emergency rescue coverage to even the most remote and challenging terrains, all year round. It’s worth noting that without this extra chopper, maintenance requirements might have posed a problem, potentially leaving this lifesaving service unavailable.

And let’s talk about the new Gulfstream G150 jet! This incredible addition means CareFlight can now respond lightning-fast to medical emergencies and offer support during crises across the region and beyond. Plus, it will play a vital role in the rapid deployment of Australian Medical Assistance Teams (AUSMAT) through the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, based right here in Darwin and ready to roll at any time.

From sea rescues to road trauma and even delicate newborn rescues, CareFlight is always there, standing ready to lend a hand.

Minister Butler couldn’t be happier, saying, “The Albanese Government went to the election promising CareFlight funds to expand their fleet and we have delivered.” And he’s right! This is a huge win for the Northern Territory, ensuring a full 100% coverage for rescue and medivac services.

Senator Malarndirri McCarthy chimed in, highlighting how this support will bring more lifesaving care to some of the most far-flung parts of our beautiful country.

In the words of Member for Solomon Luke Gosling OAM MP, “We said a Federal Labor Government would deliver a second helicopter for CareFlight and we have delivered.” A promise made, and now a promise kept.

This is a monumental step forward, ensuring that those facing health emergencies in the Northern Territory can count on swift, reliable help. Distance and time may have been adversaries in the past, but with these new assets, emergency medical services will be faster and more effective than ever before. Kudos to all involved in making this happen!
