London, United Kingdom (CU)_ In response to reports that UK foreign secretary Liz Truss is leading the race for prime minister against her competitor, former British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, the Indian diaspora has organized a havan to secure his safety and success. The race between Sunak and Truss to assume the mantle of the Tory party grows more intense with passing days. According to two surveys, Truss has expanded her lead in the campaign to become the next leader of the United Kingdom.
According to CK Naidu, a British Indian, “We are not praying for him because he is an Indian but because he has the caliber and can take us out of the cost of living crisis”. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was forced to resign as ministers quit en masse from his cabinet, citing a string of offenses and mistakes over the past year. Hence, the ruling Conservative party is now selecting a new leader.
According to the surveys, Truss has a double-digit lead, and her team has allegedly requested Sunak to stand down so she may assume the premiership. It appears that leadership elections have created a great deal of disruption to the government’s operations, resulting in the postponement of several key decisions. Reportedly, Sunak’s team has flatly declined the offer. In the meantime, in a recent face-to face televised debate with Truss, Sunak won the audience of Conservative Party members, which created a positive impact on the British Indian ex-minister.
The Indian diaspora is one of the UK’s biggest ethnic minorities, accounting for around 2.5% of the overall population. According to reports, this 2.5% contributes around 6% to the GDP. According to the Grant Thornton annual tracker for 2022, the number of Indian firms increased from 805 to 900 in comparison to the previous year. Sunak is responsible for this success story of the Indian diaspora, which is currently garnering considerable attention.
