The PM announces compensation for the victims of the tragic chariot incident in Thanjavur

Thanjavur, India (CU)_ In a tragic chariot accident that took place at a temple festival in Kalaiamedu, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, at least 11 individuals were electrocuted and 15 others sustained injuries. When the temple chariot collided with an overhanging live wire, 11 people were killed. Six people have been severely injured in this event, out of a total of fifteen victims, which included 2 kids.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed great regret over the Thanjavur incident. He also declared that PMNRF will provide INR 2 lakh apiece to the families of the deceased and INR 50,000 to those injured. He said, “My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. I hope those injured recover soon”. He added, Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the mishap in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu”.

Three injured individuals have been admitted to Thanjavur Medical College. V Balakrishnan, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Tiruchirappalli, shared the circumstances of the tragedy, stating that 11 individuals have lost their lives so far and fifteen others have been injured badly in the accident. He stated that an FIR had been filed over the issue.

According to the IG, because the low tension cables had been disconnected, the chariot may have touched the high tension cable. He stated that the temple chariot collided with an overhead high-tension cable. He noted that the upper part of the temple chariot either came into contact with the wire or the high-tension cable’s arc of influence.

According to Balakrishnan, “Due to the electrocution, 10 persons lost their lives. 3 of them died at the spot. 7 others were brought to the Thanjavur medical hospital for treatment. For the 15 persons who are injured, doctors are giving them required medical treatment. We have registered a FIR. The exact cause of the accident will be known only after further inquiry”.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has approved a compensation package of INR 5 lakh for the families of those killed in the unfortunate disaster. He is also planning to pay a visit to the victims’ families in Thanjavur soon. Balakrishnan and Thanjavur Special Police Ravali Priya paid a visit to the Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital, where the injured victims were being treated.

Chief Minister Stalin stated in the state parliament that he directed his colleague minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamoezhi to visit the scene in-person and monitor rescue works. He said, “I have already announced Rs 5 lakh each financial assistance for people who passed away. I will visit Thanjavur to meet the injured and deceased’s families”. The Tamil Nadu Assembly also performed a two-minute silence in memory of the 11 fatalities.
