The PM inaugurates Padma Bridge North and South police stations

Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated many Bangladesh Police development projects, including the Padma Bridge North and South police stations. The Prime Minister inaugurated 12 district police hospitals modernized under a project, six women barracks, and an online general diary (GD) system while virtually participating in a program from her official residence Gonobhaban. She also distributed 120 additional houses, built in a second phase by the police, to the landless and homeless.

Last year, on April 10, to mark the birth centennial of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and to support the Awami League government’s initiative to provide houses to all the homeless and landless, the Prime Minister gave out more than 400 houses built by the police to the beneficiaries. Bangladesh Police hosted the event concurrently in Gonobhaban, Rajarbagh Police Lines, Padma Setu North Police Station, Munshiganj, Women Police Barak end Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), Khulna, Mymensingh Police Hospital, and Police Line end in Pirojpur district.

At the event, a film documentary featuring the five major development programs of the Bangladesh Police was played. On this occasion, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, MP, and Senior Secretary of Public Security Division Md Akhter Hossain delivered their speeches, while the welcome address was given by Dr. Benazir Ahmed, Inspector General of Police (IGP). The police station Padma Setu Uttar Thana comes under the Munshiganj District Police, whereas Padma Setu Dakkhin Thana comes under the Shariatpur District Police.

According to local businesses in Kuakata, following the formal inauguration of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, the number of domestic and international visitors visiting Kuakata, which has the second biggest beach in Bangladesh, might grow seven times higher than the current number. Motaleb Sharif, general secretary of the Kuakata Hotel-Motel Owners Association, said, “Many hotels in the region have started enhancing their facilities and services in anticipation of an onrush of tourists once the bridge opens”. He added, “The long journey discourages people from coming to Kuakata but the number of tourists will increase after the bridge opens as it will save time and money in traveling”.
