Chennai, India (CU)_ The five-year-old Kiara Kaur has garnered international attention for reading 36 books continuously for over an hour without a break and beating all previous record books in this category. A baby girl who resides in the United Arab Emirates has now reached the World Book of Records in London and Asia Book of Records for her accomplishments. The World Book of Records in London accredited Kiara Kaur as a child prodigy “for having specific ability to read non-stop 36 books in 105 minutes at the age of 4 years on 13th February.”

As reported by Asia Book of Records, Kiara has set a record of reading maximum number of books continuously in a short time span. Kiara’s nursery teacher in Abu Dhabi recognized her reading talent while she studied there before they closed down the classes due to lockdown. When her teacher discovered her love for reading, she became her enthusiastic supporter. She said she found the kid often spending time in the library reading books.

Baby Kiara said in an interview that her favorite books are Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Shooting Star. She said, “I love to read because I like to see the colorful pictures in the book. And they are written big so I can read the words easily (sic)”.

Kiara’s parents claim that their daughter spends most of her time in reading and that she had read more than two hundred books over the past year. Kiara’s dentist mother Dr Little Mahendra also denied that she was coerced into achieving this. She said, “She used to read all the time, while in the car, even in the rest room and before going to bed. She is such an inquisitive child, we had to get her books every time we went to shopping”. Kiara’s father Dr Ravindranath said, “We feel proud that she has achieved a lot at this young age. Wish her reading habit continues”.

The five-year-old added, “Sometimes there are no new books and I read the same story again and again”. Kiara also explained why she prefers to read from books rather than from other devices. She said, “Reading from books is extremely enjoyable. You can carry books anywhere you like. The problem in reading on phones or watching videos is that I can’t read if there is no internet for some time”. Kiara’s ambition is to become a doctor. She enjoys swimming and hiking as well. Kiara is a US citizen, who was born in the United States to Chennai parents. Her mother said that many of the books read by the little girl to set the record are level 3 or 4 books, which are intended for older children. She also claimed that Kiara’s grandfather, Lt Colonel MP Singh, encouraged her talent in reading. She said, “He used to listen to her stories on WhatsApp calls for hours together. He has had a great impact on Kiara’s upbringing”.
