monoclonal antibodies is used in the treatment. Antibodies are proteins produced by the body in order to protect itself from any sickness. Monoclonal antibodies are artificially manufactured in a lab and are specifically designed to fight a certain disease. The antibodies casirivimab and imdevimab, which are available in the antibody cocktail of Roche, act particularly against the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. They prevent the virus from attaching to human cells and then infecting them. Antibodies that work in tandem defend against the body’s resistance to them.

According to Dr. Reddy, patients over the age of 65 and those with complaints of obesity, uncontrolled diabetes, cardiovascular difficulties, or those on immunosuppressants can all undergo the antibody cocktail treatment. He said, “This can also be given to patients who are aged more than 55 years if they have heart-related issues”. Last year, the antibody cocktail made headlines following its usage in treating former US President Donald Trump. Among the patients with mild to moderate Covid-19 symptoms, the medication is believed to minimize the likelihood of hospitalization by 70%.

Dr. Reddy however advised that this treatment should not be administered to pregnant women, and that patients who recover after receiving this treatment are advised to wait a minimum of three months to have their vaccinations. He further stated that the antibody cocktail should be administered only in a hospital environment where there is availability of an emergency medical system that may be activated quickly in the event of any adverse issues related to infusion.
