Thousands of citizens rally in Pakistan to support embattled PM Khan

-

Islamabad, Pakistan (CU)_ Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan attended the huge public gathering on Sunday evening in the capital Islamabad, receiving a massive support from a huge crowd as he faces mounting opposition criticism for the country’s political turmoil. According to PM Khan, the demonstration was the “biggest ever jalsa in the capital”. During his speech, he declared, “Today is a battle for Pakistan.”

It was previously speculated that Prime Minister Khan, who is facing a no-confidence vote in parliament from the opposition, might resign during the historic gathering. Rather, in a show of force ahead of the no-confidence vote, the besieged Prime Minister informed the colossal crowd that foreign forces were engaging in a conspiracy to destabilize his coalition government.

PM Khan delivered his marathon speech for more than an hour. He explained about the third party interference in the government. He said, “I called you here because attempts are being made to bribe people. They decided to dislodge our government by claiming that Pakistan is being destroyed. I challenge that no government gave a performance like we did in our three and a half years”.

The no-confidence vote against Imran Khan’s administration, tabled on March 8 by a unified Opposition that determined to depose the Prime Minister, arrives on the heels of a number of legislators from the Prime Minister’s own party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) coming out openly against him. The 69-year-old PM Imran Khan is the leader of a coalition government and may be expelled if one or more of the coalition partners decides to defect.

Premier Khan took to Twitter to thank his people who took part in the rally. He tweeted, “I want to thank everyone who attended our jalsa today, especially our women, from across Pak, making it the biggest ever jalsa in the capital. Thank you also to all those who were unable to get into the jalsagah & were stuck on the roads; & my thanks to all our organizers”.
