Africa (Commonwealth Union) _ President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges, including infrastructure development, food and energy security, and education reform. At a recent meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Tinubu stressed that his administration is focused on national service, not personal gain.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said, “I didn’t come to look for money and exploit the situation; I came to work. I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me.”

The meeting, attended by 16 former leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives, highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration across party lines to achieve Nigeria’s development goals. Tinubu thanked the group for their support, emphasizing that progress requires inclusiveness and a concerted effort.

Reflecting on the nation’s challenges, Tinubu acknowledged past failures, particularly in areas like education and the neglect of oil-producing communities. He criticized the country’s past actions, saying, “We neglected our communities; we neglected the goose that lays the golden eggs.”

The president laid out his administration’s plans to address these issues, including improving educational facilities and energy security. He also urged the former presiding officers to continue sharing their experiences in governance to help shape the nation’s future.

Ken Nnamani, speaking on behalf of the delegation, expressed full support for Tinubu’s administration, acknowledging the complexity of Nigeria’s problems but praising Tinubu’s handling of local government autonomy as a sign of his capacity to lead.

Nnamani affirmed the group’s willingness to assist in nation-building, recognizing the critical role experienced leaders play in guiding the country through its current hardships. He commended the President for entrusting key national positions to members of their group, acknowledging their contribution to Nigeria’s future.
