UAE visa suspension not due to COVID-19 – Baig

-

Islamabad, Pakistan (CWBN)_ Reiterating the rhetoric of the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Senator Muhammad Enver Baig stated on Friday that the visa suspension the United Arab Emirates imposed against Pakistan in mid-November is not linked to COVID-19 concerns.

Baig, who has connections to two Pakistani opposition parties – the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), added that the suspension has more to do with diplomatic and political rifts in Pakistan-UAE relations.

However, in reference to the foreign ministry comment on Friday (04th Nov) claiming that the suspension is not official, the senator noted that the issue has to be dealt with “at the highest level”.

Baig also questioned the ministry with regards to whether it “realizes that till the UAE ban is in place, Pakistan is losing 800 of 1000 jobs daily and the country benefiting from this is India”?

“Though the UAE authorities have not officially announced the ban, but in actual fact work visas are banned. I urge upon the prime minister to kindly intervene in getting work visas restored, as Pakistan recruits approximately 250,000 workers annually with home remittances of USD 3.5 from the UAE alone,” he stated.
