University of Sydney honors Indian scholarship recipients

Australia (Commonwealth Union)_ Recently, the University of Sydney celebrated the 2020 to 2023 recipients of the Sydney scholars India Scholarship program which aims to discover India’s future leaders.

Established in 2019, the Sydney scholars India Scholarship Program helps outstanding Indian international students to study at Sydney who have great ideas to create a positive change in their country. Since its inception, 109 students have received the scholarship, as part of the University’s commitment to building educational ties with India and supporting students from different backgrounds to accomplish their full potential.

Recently, the University held a ceremony for scholarship recipients from 2020 to 2023, giving students an opportunity to network in person and share their experiences of studying and living in Australia.

At the event, Associate Vice President Sydney Shane Griffin met the students and congratulated them for their contributions.

He said, “This scholarship program is part of our commitment to deepening engagement with India and we are happy to celebrate our recent and current scholars, as well as their successes. In India, we are committed to continued investment through collaboration, research, and education with industry partners and most importantly to diverse our student community”.

One of the 2020 recipient Ava Khan is in her fourth year studying a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Advanced Studies, mastering in health and infectious diseases. Her main idea for making an impact on the Indian population was to develop and implement an e-health system across Indian public hospitals that would be available for both doctors and patients and lessen the burden of paper records.

 “Studying here and getting involved in many research projects and opportunities, which I have been afforded and speaking to leaders in industry in digital health have supported me reshape my idea and figure out the kinks that I need to smooth it out,” said Ava.

Ava advised the students, who are starting their scholarship, to take the first step with a project and have confidence in themselves. She said, “If there is a project which you want to follow, reach out and express your interest. Seek out mentors and professional relationships which will guide you and help discover the passion which will be the key to your success. Believe in yourself and your impact as you embark on this exciting journey.”

For Indian international students, the Sydney Scholars India Scholarship Program is one of the Australia’s most generous scholarship programs, which is valued more than $500,000 in total each year. Annually, a total of 28 scholarship are awarded. Per annum 3 x $40,000 is given to any undergraduate degree for up to four years, and 10 x $20,000 first-year scholarships for postgraduate students and undergraduate.
