Australia (Commonwealth Union)_ Studying abroad offers students an opportunity to receive a world-class education while immersing themselves in new cultures and broadening their global perspectives. However, the cost of studying in countries like Australia can be daunting, especially given the strong value of foreign currencies. To alleviate this financial burden, students are encouraged to apply for scholarships, and one prominent option is the Destination Australia Scholarship. Funded by the Australian Government‘s Department of Education, the Destination Australia Scholarship aims to support the National Strategy for International Education 2025.

The initiative’s primary objectives are to encourage international students to study in regional Australia, help boost the growth of regional universities, and offer students a high-quality educational experience outside of major urban areas. Students interested in applying for the Destination Australia Scholarship for Semester 1, 2025, must submit their online applications by 12 pm on 20 January 2025. International students who meet specific eligibility criteria and wish to study at regional campuses in Australia can apply for the scholarship.

Eligibility requirements
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:
● Be an international student holding a valid student visa for the duration of the scholarship.
● Be a graduate beginning a new program such as a master’s degree after completing a Bachelor’s.
● Have received a full offer to study an eligible program entirely at the Australian campus in 2025. Acceptance of the offer by the scholarship deadline is not required.
Financial support and disbursement
The Destination Australia Scholarship offers significant financial assistance to students. Accordingly, the universities will provide scholarship payments of AUD $7,500 (approximately INR 4,00,000) per semester, to be disbursed after the academic census date in the first semester or research quarter of study. Once we confirm the student’s eligibility and meet all obligations, we will make this payment. A second payment of AUD $7,500 will be made no later than six months after the first installment, provided the student continues to meet eligibility requirements, maintains satisfactory academic progress, and fulfills all scholarship obligations.

Application process
The application process varies depending on the educational provider, so applicants must confirm the specific details with their chosen institution. In general, applicants will need to provide several key documents as part of their application, including:
● Personal information (name, address, contact details).
● Academic qualifications and certificates.
● Proof of English language proficiency, which can be demonstrated through a globally recognized test such as IELTS.
● A personal statement outlining academic achievements, career goals, and the reasons for choosing to study in regional Australia.
The selection process takes into account the applicant’s eligibility, academic merit, and personal statement. Additionally, the universities will also value diversity and inclusion, which may be considered during the review of applications.
