India is on the brink of unlocking its vast potential in the semiconductor sector, a development that industry experts believe will be transformative. The country is poised to make significant strides in semiconductor manufacturing, a key industry that underpins much of modern technology. The momentum towards this goal is set to accelerate with the upcoming events ‘Semicon India 2024’ and the Semiconductor Executive Summit (SES). ‘Semicon India 2024’ is scheduled to take place in Greater Noida from September 11 to 13. This event, organized by the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) in collaboration with SEMI, Messe Muenchen India, and the Electronic Industries Association of India-ELCINA, aims to showcase India’s growing capabilities and ambitions in the semiconductor field.
Before this, the Semiconductor Executive Summit will be held on September 10 at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi. This summit, organized in association with the IT Ministry and the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), will bring together global leaders from the semiconductor industry and its various ecosystems. It represents a significant opportunity for India to highlight its progress and engage with key players in the global semiconductor landscape.
Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of ICEA, emphasized the significance of these events in India’s semiconductor journey. He noted that India possesses all the essential elements for success in this sector, including robust policy support and a strong drive to lead. According to Mohindroo, these events are crucial in laying the foundation for India’s advancement in semiconductor manufacturing. Such progress is expected to not only enhance the country’s electronics manufacturing sector but also improve its position in the global market.
The scale of these events reflects the high level of international interest and involvement. ‘Semicon India 2024’ is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expected to attend. The event is anticipated to attract significant attention from global semiconductor firms and stakeholders, further underscoring India’s emerging role in this critical industry.
Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI, praised India’s rise as a key player in the semiconductor industry. He highlighted that this summit marks SEMI’s first major event of its kind in India, signaling the organization’s confidence in the country’s potential. Manocha expressed optimism about India’s future in the semiconductor ecosystem, noting that the combination of talented professionals, supportive policies and innovative capabilities, positions India favorably for future growth.
Overall, these events signify a pivotal moment for India, marking its entry into the ranks of influential global players in the semiconductor industry. The initiatives align with the country’s broader goal of enhancing its technological capabilities and economic impact on the global stage.
