Dhaka, Bangladesh (CU)_ The US ambassador to Bangladesh, Earl Robert Miller, has emphasized the continued commitment of the US government to work in collaboration with Bangladesh to eradicate human trafficking.

On Monday, Ambassador Miller and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen visited the Shishuder Jonno Amra children’s home to give them donations and address the problem of human trafficking with its founder and president Hazera Begum. While discussing the human trafficking issues at the children’s home, the ambassador Miller said, “Children of sex workers are vulnerable to human trafficking. There is no crime more heinous than the exploitation of a child”.

Begum, the president and founder of the Shishuder Jonno Amra children’s home and a former sex worker addressed her goal of stopping other street kids from being coerced into commercial sex work. She suggested that by bringing them out of poverty and offering them a home for shelter, the children could be saved from human trafficking.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen said Bangladesh is committed to ensuring that nobody is left behind, while continuing its overall growth efforts. The US embassy in Dhaka stated that the visit of Ambassador Miller to the Shishuder Jonno Amra children’s home is one of key measure taken by the US government to encourage greater cooperation, dialogue and mutual understanding between Bangladesh and the United States.

Bangladesh and US governments provided a National Child Helpline number 987 and urged all individuals to report in case of any doubtful events involving child abuse. They also encouraged the people to actively involve in the mission and support the government’s battle against human trafficking.
